Here's what I heard from the back of the car the other day: Boomer: "There's an Eagle on one side and Beethoven on the other." Jackson: "That's not Beethoven, That's our first president." Mom: "Good Job Boomer, it kind of looks like Beethoven" Jackson:" No it doesn't, it's our first president." Mom: "Yes, Do you know what his name is?" (Pause....) It's George (pause....) Jackson: "Washington!" "Is he a monkey?" Mom: "No" Jackson "Then why is his name George? George is a monkey"
This week I helped Jon do inventory at his office. I picked out paint colors and I helped do a little organizing. His office still needs some TLC, the sad thing is that this is the best it has ever looked. I'll have to post before and after pictures when we finish it. My only holdup is the lack of an IKEA here.
Here's what I have invisioned for the office:
The boys finished up their last week of Swim lessons. Which is good since I seemed to be rule breaking there daily. There were rules about the hot tub, No climbing on the slide, no big slide without a wrist band, no running, no babies in the swim lesson area, and ABSOLUTELY NO HAVING FUN.
Jon's Sister Janice and Uncle Lloyd came to visit from Baker City on Friday. They were on their way to the Boise Temple so it was a semi convienient stop for them. It's always nice to spend time with family.
Saturday we went to Twin Falls to visit my beautiful friend and worlds best study partner Chelsie, her dashing and talented husband Blake, and their beautiful, well behaved children: Remi, Crew and Cash. They fed us a delicious lunch and the kids ran through sprinklers while we talked. After lunch they took us to Shoshone Falls and we got to see where Evel Knievel took his infamous jump. Before we left to go to Twin Falls, Sadie was playing in the car and hurt her arm but we couldn't tell what was wrong. Nothing looked swollen but she was not moving it and just letting it flop. She was so tired she fell asleep but woke up crying again. When we got to Twin Falls we had Dr. Blake look at it. We thought it might be her wrist so Blake wrapped it and it seemed to feel better. He mentioned something about Nurse Maid elbow. You can see the bandage on Sadie's arm here
When we got home that evening Sadie was holding a strawberry and was about to squish it all over the house. Jon grabbed her hand, she threw her self back and Pop...floppy arm again (and crying.) Jon felt awful and was preparing to take her to the emergency room. I told him to wait a minute and after examining her wrist and arm I looked up nurse maid elbow on Youtube and found this great tutorial.
It was magic. Her arm was in full use and like nothing happened. I'm convinced that you can fix anything with Youtube. I wish I would have thought of that when Boomer needed stitches.
Sunday we went to Church in Eagle. The ward members were so nice. We even got invited by the Nielsen Family to dinner. They were wonderful hosts and Jackson and Boomer had fun playing with their youngest son Jack. We also met the aunt and uncle of one of Jackson's classmates from preschool. (The Warnick family). (Insert it's a small world music here.)
July12: It was an uneventful day. We took Boomer to get his foot checked. (Part of the procedure to be sure it is healing OK.) I asked the Dr. about swimming and she said absolutely not. (Any of you who know me, know that I do not follow Dr's orders well...or for that fact anyone telling me what to do.) Boomer was in the pool that evening with some duct tape firmly wrapped on his foot. We also met with Abby our future potential babysitter.
July 13: morning swim lessons, we purchased a new Car seat for Sadie and flip flops for the kids. (We were hoping that this would resolve the crying a whining in the car but after a few days of the car seat we learned that it doesn't matter what the car seat is. She just doesn't like the car.)Dad laid off his field manager and came home a little early. Went to dinner at Mexican Restaurant. Sadie ran off during dinner and I followed her and found a great home store. I found a table I want to buy. Jon told me we could afford it in 3-5 years. That's the standard answer he's been using for about 3-5 years now.
Here's the slide that Sadie can't get enough of:
You can tell how much she loves it here: Here's the slide that Boomer and Jackson like to go down:July 14: Cleaned the house...I feel like I clean this place all day long. Then I realized, It's so small that any mess appears big. We went to Becky's house again and helped her can beets for 3 hours. Goofy self portrait
Becky told me about Dr Thornburgh. According to her he is an amazing cure all doctor. Jon has had unexplainable numbness in his feet. The neurologists said nothing was wrong so we scheduled an appointment with Dr. T. Hopefully Jon will be able to feel all of his little piggies when Dr. T get's done with him. Went Swimming in the evening.
July 15: Morning swim lessons followed by an afternoon trip to Zoo Boise. We loved the Boise Zoo. It's just the right size for little ones.
The zoo is surrounded by a huge park (Julia Davis) with a lake in it. We met up with Jon and rode the paddle boats.
Feeding the ducks was one of the best things about the rideThen we went out to dinner at the spaghetti factory.
July 16: AM Cleaned this darn little messy apartment in the morning. In the afternoon we went to the Discovery Center. It's a great way to learn science. There was all kind of displays explaining how things work...tornadoes, a green screen, bubbles, shopping area, veterinarian area etc. It's a really cool place but the kids would probably have enjoyed it better if they were a bit older.
July 17: Jon and Boys went fishing in the morning while Michelle read a book and Sadie took a nap. It is really pretty nice of Jon to humor the boys and take them fishing because he isn't too keen on fishing. Unfortunately for Jon, Jackson can't get enough of it. We need to find an avid fishermen to take the boys. Do we have any takers? Jackson told me he almost caught a big fish but it broke his line.
In the afternoon/evening we went to visit a former mission companion of Jon's. Had a BBQ at their house, went swimming in their pool.
July 18: Church and a afternoon visit from Jon's niece and nephew in law: Sean and Shauna. The kids love them. Sadie gave both of them big hugs before they left.
Jon and the boys went fishing and almost caught a fish while I struggled through a triathlon.
I didn't come in dead last but "mostly dead" last. At the end I was all alone. Finally at about mile 4 a couple of guys passed me coming the other way who were on mile 2. I can't tell you how excited I was to see them. Both of them were males so that didn't help my standings in the women. (I passed a woman at mile 4 or I would have finished last.) I finished last in my age group. I'm still trying to figure out where everybody passed me. It must have been on the bike, and the swim...oh yeah, and the run. See all those people in the background. They were faster than me....all of them. (Why am I smiling?)
Some rules for doing a triathlon: 1)Try to exercise more than once before doing one. 2)Don't sign up for Olympic distance if you meant to do a sprint. 3)Make sure all features of your equipment are working before you start the race. (This is not an excuse and wouldn't have made me go faster. It's just nice to have equipment that works) 4)Try not to come in last place. (That one, I accomplished..barely)
After the triathlon we went to a farmer's market, then to my brother's house. My nephew Jake was celebrating his 8th birthday so we went over for cake. While we were there Boomer's heel had an unfortunate encounter with the metal weather stripping on the bottom of the door so we had to leave in a hurry to take him for 6 stitches. He was very brave and even though he got teary he didn't cry at urgent care. Be aware the photo might be too graphic for those with squeamish stomachs. July 11: Church and a Sunday drive to Eagle. Boomer couldn't wait to go to primary and show his new teacher his "owie". (Sadie came home with Mom to take a nap and Jackson didn't want to go to a new primary class so he came home too.)
July 9: This morning we went to see my Brother and Sister-n-law. It was good to finally see my brother, Michael (Uncle Mike). We've been trying to hook up for a couple of days. It was his first time meeting Sadie. I think it was his first acquaintance with Boomer too.
I signed up for the Spud Man Triathlon this weekend so I decided I better get online and read about packet pickup. Imagine my surprise when I realized that I signed up for a full olympic triathlon and not a sprint. Really?? I usually have better attention to detail than this. So I will be swimming about a mile, biking 24.8 miles, and a 10 K (6.2 mile) run. OK seriously? I haven't exercised since the last triathlon a month ago. I'm not sure if I can do it but I'm going to give it a try. Be prepared for me to have a last place finish.
After Sadie's nap we went to vist my mission companion, formerly know as Sister Hurdman. (Now Becky) She was one of my favorite companions. I think we were together for about 5 months, the last 5 months of my mission. We had all kinds of adventures together in Brazil. It was great to see her again.
I picked up my packet and freaked out a little about the distance...bought a new swimsuit and a camelback backpack. Early to bed tonight. Hopefully I can post tommorow...if I'm still alive.
July 8: We had swim lessons again but this time I was in the know and took all of our swimsuits. After the boys finished their swim we all got in the water and had a great time. They have a fantastic kids pool with a slide that Sadie couldn't get enough of. The boys had fun going down the big water slide. (We were too busy playing to get pictures..we'll get them next time.) Two cute girls at the pool Jacie and Shelby helped me watch Sadie while I caught the boys at the bottom of the water slide. Sadie didn't want them to touch her and frowned at them the whole time.
After naps we went to Cabela's and got fishing poles. (Jackson's been asking for a fishing pole so he can make money. He wants to sell the fish that he catches.) We took the poles and drove up to Lucky Peak Lake. I have never fished before and it was quite the site trying to figure out what to purchase and then how to assemble it all. Unfortunately we couldn't find a good place to fish. We walked over to the docks, I attempted to cast the line out and it got all tangled up. After a few minutes I talked the boys into going home. Jackson and Boomer found some huge dandelions they couldn't wait to blow.
We stopped for burritos at Chronic Taco. The name sounded cooler than the food was but the burritos were huge. I'm embarrassed to say I ate all of mine.
We went to the pool this evening and Boomer and Jackson took their fishing poles swimming. Literally, the boys had them down in the water swimming with them like they were swim toys...Good thing we got the insurance on them.
July 7: Sadie has been boycotting her bed since she got here. After a frustrating morning, she finally cried it out today at nap time. She went to bed great tonight. We went to Eagle today and found a cute cucake shop that we had to stop at. Boomer and Sadie got Plain Janes, Mom got a Black and White, Jackson got Carmel Apple and We got double chocolate for Dad. Later on we picked up some Quiznos and then went to Settlers park. It's a great park. We were going to meet my brother there but he has the "Webb time clock" which tends to run anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours later than planned. I luckily have married into the "Pippert time clock" which is 30 minutes ahead of schedule so on occasion I do show up on time. However, Jon likes to call me the late Mrs Pippert. (Which sounds like I have passed on but is a fun joke.)
